At Killary Fjord Shellfish we harvest our mussels twice weekly but in the summer we harvest every two days. At first light the workboat leaves the slipway to harvest the mussels from the pristine waters of Killary Fjord
After harvest the mussels are placed in tanks with uv lights to zap any ecoli that might be present in the mussels.
The mussels are then cleaned and debyssed. This is the process where the beards which the mussel uses to attach to the ropes are removed. Any fouling is also removed at this stage, the mussels are now perfectly clean and ready to cook. No more work for you in the kitchen.
At Killary Fjord Shellfish we deliver our mussels and other local sustainability sourced seafood to restaurants and wholesaler on the Wild Atlantic Way daily. We deliver to Dublin twice weekly.
